Ghana’s music industry is mostly controlled by male artists, with female artists having a little spot light on them and the rest have to go through a lot trouble to have a share of the spot light the others female artists are enjoying. There has been an attempt to bring together our females acts by the late EBONY but it didn’t materialize. A Ghanaian songstress known in the music circles as Shegah has introduced a laudable idea to bring together talented up and coming young female acts and if possible top acts as a united front to break the norm and this initiative should be applauded and encouraged by the industry. In a wonderful aura of industry players and top bloggers in the industry on October 21, 2018 we were invited to witness a video preview of a remix of Shegah’s LETS GO song where she featured three new rising female artists SEETA KAMANI, TSOOBI and NAJI STAR who are the first set of female artists to commence this project. Shegah stated that the other female artists – KUNAKI, TYRA MEEK, RENNER and PINKY– have recorded their single and will be out in no time and just like the first of ladies, theirs will also have a music video accompanying it. In other not to make the project seem like an all dance hall affair, Shegah said various genres will be included in the project.
Speaking to Shegah in an exclusive interview, she emphatically said that this initiative of hers does not come with a lifespan, and using herself as example during her days with her now separated group TRIPLE M at an early age of 16, she got into a music group and at 17 years she got into the limelight. So, with all these years of experience acquired on the way, she thought it wise to set up this idea of bringing all the female artists together to help improve the young up and coming female artists and with her experience and support from the other top female artists these young acts will have the exposure, proper skill set to meet the international standards and also put Ghana on the map, she also mentioned that, she will try putting together a band to help the young artist practice and have a feel of how live band performance is.
Shegah also stated that whoever joins the “clique” will not be bonded by any contract in other not to have any effects on them when it happens that they find a record label to sign them. And each of these acts can embark on solo projects, and at least meet every three to have a joint project, she was very positive and hopeful that this project will meet its objective and will stand the test of time. Even though Shegah brought up this idea she stated that this project will not be hers but for the whole of Ghana because she believes that in doing this project, she is helping improve the music industry by helping these young females acts. Shegah is of the believe that her vision will be accomplished if her fellow ace artistes will offer a helping hand, she added that she will be elated if the industry throws in their support as well to make her dream a success and she pleaded with the top female artist again to offer a helping hand to make this initiative a dream come true
